OT Rant Coming...

SBC Yahoo cut off my DSL in error yesterday. Spent 1 hour 40 minutes on the line with 4 different people. Result?

They were willing to restore my "cut" service within "10 business days." (SBC acknowledges that the account was paid-to-date and current and that they erred in taking the service down).

I can not tell you how furious (yet appropriate) I was with their, "but there is nothing we can do....It takes 10 days." After the first hour I was probably a wine color in the face, listening to their indifference.

It didn't matter how I approached it. Oh, the end of the story?

I called RoadRunner last night and they installed it today (the fellow worked until 8 p.m. on the telephone poll and it is 12 degrees outside - - first time cable for me. He just left, apologized for running late and issued a $20 credit since he missed the 2-4 p.m. window of service. (Just finished the speed test and it ran 2297 kbps. Awesome. 3.5x faster than the DSL w/my ex-friends.

SBC is broken - - complacently laying in the trough. I called USTel and had them take over my local and long distance service for about 70% of the cost of SBC.

Result? SBC Yahoo lost a stream of revenue of close to $1000. (That is a drop but drops make up buckets). Worst part? Not one of the four people I talked with had an "ounce" of compassion for my problem.

Phew. Thanks for listening.

Ivan
