Google does not make them they merely purchase them from other sources. So does Garmin. In fact, they both purchase their data from the same source - Navteq. What's your point? jjarmoc My original post queried sources because while Garmin has several mapping sources this expertise in these other suppliers could be used in the area Navteq presently supplies. Possibly they are so dissimilar that’s just a dream yet because there is a five-year period before the Navteq contract is finished Garmin could replicate the Navteq mapping using its other charting suppliers’ knowledge. Also I wanted to raise a point: Garmin is not but for one area dependent in Navteq: the marine and aero charting is from other suppliers. Yes, the automotive field is a larger (and growing segment) yet it seems to me Garmin won’t allow itself to be put in the spot where it is beholding to one supplier.MichaelR
