Goro is the $4.3 billion nickel laterite project on New Caledonia (island west of Australia). It's slated to produce 60,000 tonnes per year of nickel.

There was a March 15 Bloomberg news item that quoted Peter Poppinga, executive VP for Vale nickel unit: "We are going to produce first nickel by the end of March or beginning of April". The failure of a part of the plant, which delayed first output due in January, has been fixed, he said.

Anyone have any more information on the plant status and where the problem was; ie, leaching, solvent extraction, or refining?
