Grape says"People simply do have "too many kids." How shall we respond to that?"Apparently by an increased welfare state.Well, that's what you think my response would be.For me, this is where "personal responsibility" comes to play. I make X. I need to live within my means. If that means I can afford to have a family of 4, so be it. If that means I can have a house of a certain size, so be it. This goes beyond whether or not we as a society can "find a way" for everyone to have the family size they want. Piety? Hardly. Responsibility? Absolutely. That's your personal principles and I have no quarrel with them. But what's the outcome if we enforce them on everybody? Looks to me like a low standard of living for teachers – low enough to cause the good ones to drop out.
