Greetings, Chobanian, and welcome. You asked:

<<I received this tidbit from Foolexpress:

P.S. Foolish Tidbit: Did you know that 31 out of 31 managed stock funds at American Express have LOST to the market's average return over the past five
years, while charging average upfront fees of 3.5%? Wow. Ugly.

I have just started a TSA with American Express and have allocated my contributions to three different funds. I was told that there were no other fees besides a 1.5% annual mortality charge. Can someone shed some light on this dissapointing tidbit?>>

What it means is that for your retirement plan AMEX has waived the loads and is charging just the annual fee; however, it still doesn't change the fact that the funds as a whole have sadly under-performed the index.
