Greetings, Gopete, and welcome. You asked:

<<If you are already 70 1/2 and are required to take minimum withdrawals, can the withdrawals be transferred to a Roth IRA? Does joint vs single life expectany enter into the determination? >>

The withdrawal may not be transferred to a Roth IRA; however, the amount left in the IRA after you take that distribution for the year can be so transferred. As to the single versus joint expectancy issue, that will affect the amount of the withdrawal you must take. See IRS Publication 590 (Individual Retirement Arrangements) for details. You can get that pub at http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/prod/forms_pubs/index.html.

Regards..Pixy
