Greetings, Jucie, and welcome. You asked:

I was 70 years old on October 29, 2000. By my calculations, I will be 70 and one half on April 29, 2001. Do I have to take an MRD this year (2001) or do I have until April 1, 2002??????or when....can you help me on this???

You must take your first MRD no later than April 1, 2002. You have until April 1 of the year following the year in which you reach 70 1/2 to take the first MRD. If you wait that long to do so, though, then you will have to take your second MRD no later than December 31, 2002, as well. That gives you two taxable distributions in the same year. That boost in taxable income may not be to your liking. Be sure you want to do that before you wait until 4/1/02 to take your MRD.
