>> Just shopped for a good CD rate and wanted to keep it local. Just bought four CD's from my local credit union (PATELCO). Five year CD @ 6%, not callable and, you can take them out ahead with only a penalty of 90 days of lost interest.... <<My credit union is mostly very good, but CDs are the exception. It has really good loan rates (6.5% car loans and a 9.75% fixed-rate gold Visa for example), top-notch no-fee checking (with 2% interest and free checks with a $300 minimum) and a pretty competitive passbook savings rate (4.25% but going down month after month), but their CDs are horrible. They don't even *offer* anything above two years, and they are also currently at 4.25%.Definitely better to be a borrower than a lender there. #29
