I caved and paid for a mechanic to do the oil change for me. I took it to a shop that my parents have used for the last ten years. The owner is also a friend of my Dad's so I knew I could trust them to do a good job of checking out my car.

With all the Christmas expenses I couldn't afford to buy the necessary tools, and the more I learned about it the less fun it sounded. I think I may my do it yourself urges to the kitchen for the duration of the holidays. At the moment, pies are significantly more rewarding than oil changes.

Thanks for all the advice any way. In another 3,000 miles I'll have more cash on hand and I can try again to find some place to take my old oil at a decent price to keep the mess worth while.
