Gwen, technical answer: your car probably has mechanical lifters (vs. hydrolic which are self adjusting and quiet when they work right). These need periodic adjustment to remain relatively quiet (there will always be a little bit of noise). If I remember that should be checked every 30-45k miles and adjusted if needed. If they are a little loose that is the clicking you hear and no big problem till they get way too loose. If they are too tight that can lead to $$$. That holds the valve open which can lead to burnt valves which leads to an overhaul (or at least a valve job). In a nutshell, have your mechanic check the valve clearence if that has not been done recently.Tonyp.s. My wife has a '89 Honda Prelude with 210K miles. Runs like a top and going for 300K.
