Has anyone else tryed their products kiefer or cream cheeses .

This is going to sound like heresy, but I have tried most everything Lifeway makes -- and I like Lifeway's "Sweet Kiss" cream cheese even better than its kefir.

For my money -- and despite being a Lifeway-the-company fan, I'm trying to be objective about the products here -- Lifeway's kefir takes only second place in the U.S. market; Helios's product is much more like the kefir sold in Russia. It's somewhat thinner, for one thing, and has considerably more "bite" to it.

That's not to say Lifeway's kefir is bad. It's pretty passable -- just Americanized for the delicate Western palate. And it's far better than the low-quality liquid yogurt that Fresh Made puts out and calls "kefir". Oh, and I should put in the caveat that Lifeway's soy kefir has a huge amount of "bite" to it, and I liked that as much as I like real Russian kefir.

So product-wise, I look at Lifeway like this:

1. They've got a somewhat inauthentic kefir that will probably sell better in the U.S. because it's somewhat inauthentic. Plus, they have the largest kefir market share in the U.S.

2. Their secondary product line -- La Fruta/Sweet Kiss -- targets the larger Hispanic market (thus promising better growth opportunities) and actually tastes better (to this Fool) than their kefir.

That's my read on it.

Foolish regards,
