has there ever been a year that the board's picks have outperformed the S&P500?

The last three or four times the average return has not outperformed the S&P 500. OTOH, given
the set-up of the contest, I could see 5 - 10 picks (for the two categories of this year's contest)
end the year ahead of the S&P 500. The results YTD have 12 picks (including KMF counted twice)
ahead of the SPY (proxy for S&P 500).

With a different set of rules for picks, I managed a contest on another board, and as a group
we averaged better than the SPY for that year - it was 2009, and we
actually managed, IIRC,
to double the SPY returns. I will see if I can dig something up on that.
