Just began watching a few of these .. the original 'man in black'.
Always thought that opening theme song was sung by a young
Johnny Cash ... but it turns out it was by "Johnny Western"(?)
a friend of Cash's.

People could actually *act* in the early days of tv ... most of
them came from the stage where they'd actually learned a craft!
I don't see a single actor/actress on television today that can
act nearly as well as the least amongst the actors in these old
b&w mini-dramas. Television has been dumbed down to early grade
school mentality. And the actors are just cheap 'faces'.

Also .. nearly ALL of the characters on these early drama's were
over 30 ... many in their forties, fifties and beyond. Today
there's a trap door for any actor over 50. I recall even Steve
Martin declaring that the day he turned 50 his phone began ringing
so infrequently he found himself checking it regularly to see if
it was still operational.

"Why ... back when I was a kid ... !"
