Have you modeled it carefully? My experience during retirement was a lot different than I expected. The first few years I was surprised at how low our taxes were.
But that changed and I became surprised at how difficult it was to keep our taxes low -- as low as I wanted them, at least.

Our financial advisor has developed a very thorough plan to ensure that we will have enough income to pay our monthly expenses for 40 years, including a schedule for Roth conversions to minimize our taxes. After Mrs. Fan quits working (age 66) and begins collecting SS, I will continue to work because I want to. That approximately 4 year period will see our AGI reduced from 25% to the 15% bracket with plenty of head room for conversions, perhaps bleeding back into the 25% bracket to reduce RMDs so we stay in the 15% bracket.

After I retire (age 70), if we have not made conversions, our projected AGI would have us in the 28% marginal bracket. And that's just federal. State taxes have also been considered in our plan. I fully expect to make adjustments to our plan as time goes on. Currently, our plan includes a LTC insurance policy, which is very pricey.

It is all very complicated, but better than not having enough to live on during our "golden years".
