Having dealt with final income taxes and and estate within the last year - I feel strongly an executor should select the person(s) provided professional services for the estate settlement.

I agree with others who have said the matter should be brought to the attention of the accountant. Whether you communicate about the issue pointedly or not, is another issue.

The two different tax people who have prepared our returns in recent years both used a Tax Professional's version of TurboTax. That software lists all the 1099 type items in Tax Year X as a check list for Tax Year X+1. If the tax person in question did use software with such a system, I would drop the tax person.

If there is a Terms of Engagement letter that most likely will govern stuff like this. It is certainly possible there was such a letter in previous years that applies to the current year. Have you looked through old tax records? It is also possible somebody decided to save paper and not print/mail such a check list to clients.
