He didn't send his picture until after we'd agreed to meet for coffee... I told him that it wasn't going to work out for us romantically and called it off. I feel a little bad because it's fairly obvious what my reason was for cancelling. However, I think it would have been more obvious had we met up. And if it were me, I'd rather hear the bad news before making the trip and wasting half my night on a moot point.

Your way seems rude, a little too rude. I think the general readership on this board would be fairly critical of a guy who made a blind date with a woman, and then cancelled it when she showed him a pic.

To me, if one makes a blind date, one has already accepted the risk that the person will be fugly. You set a time limit and go on the date and act as gracious as you can; and if necessary you use your pre-arranged excuse and get the hell out, never call the person again, and chalk it up to blind date karma. I find that preferable to saying, "I was willing to meet you when I had NO idea what you looked like; but now that I see what a beast you really are, there's no way I'm willing to sit down and find out what nice qualities my friend thought you had."

Besides, if you're horny enough, you can always just drink very heavily.
