I don't know if it varies by state, but had been told that if both worked and in this case he made 2-3 times more - a *distrubtion* arrangement tries to bring both incomes on a equal level. Another words, let's say you make 20K and he makes 40K. He would have to give you 10K to bring you both to 30K.

As I said, it's what I've been told by a friend who had started to file for divorce and then stopped it. Would appreciate any enlightenment. Since it would have been in her best interest to have gone through with her divorce.

You know what? He was right.

Yes he was right, but if the two can split on a friendly level - it can't hurt to help the first few months. Not enough to make it a crutch.

I know a couple who had announced they were getting a divorce 3 months before one moved out with the kids. Each time I saw them together, I was amazed at how civil they were. Never knew what broke the straw - but for the kids sake, it was a great split.
