hi all,

i'm wondering if any of you out there have experience buying health insurance privately. I have been working as an IT contractor for a while, and at all my previous positions I've been able to get onto my contracting firm's group health insurance within 30 days of starting work. I'm starting a new gig next week where I will not be able to get on their insurance until after 90 days, and I will have to pay the full group premium if I do join their insurance (at least $220/mo). COBRA from my last job will be $200+ as well. All of this futzing around changing insurance all the time is starting to drive me nuts and I'm wondering if I shouldn't just look into purchasing private health insurance, and if so what sort of cost should I expect? I'm a single 27 year old non-smoker who is in pretty good health. (I'm overweight, but I'm working on that problem and have had zero significant health problems).

I'd appreciate any thoughts and input any of you have on this issue.
