This definitely works well. A loud yell, maybe restraining them temporarily (like a mom dog might do with a paw on top of a puppy) & immediately cease playing.

Resume in a minute or two. I use the command "Easy" (others suggested "Gentle") & praise a lot for the gentler play.

I was able to transfer this over when Bear was socializing with the kittens. If he gets carried away with mouthing them or playing, I remind him "Easy". He softens right up.
