Here's another crazy idea? Could you waitress during the lunch shift somewhere? I was sitting at Outback Steakhouse one night (clearly before we stopped using credit cards) and looked at our $60 tab and started calculating the percentages. 15% is 9 bucks, times 6 tables our waitress had, times turning them 5X per shift is 9X6X5 = $270/shift. That would be for a Friday/Saturday night, but there are busy lunch places where people who work go, everybody orders an $12-15 meal and they're back to work in 45 minutes. Not saying you'd do it forever, but just for some cash to plug the gap right now while you're making a plan?

Um, they probably don't turn their tables 5X per shift during a lunch shift--I would think maximum three, with an average between one and two.

Friday and Saturday, they might very well turn their tables 5X a shift, but those are going to be the prize shifts, and senior waitstaff would get them.

However, all in all, it's not a bad idea, especially if mom4boys4 works opposite her husband--evening shifts, weekend shifts, that kind of thing.

I'm pretty sure there would be no benefits, though. Restaurants are pretty careful that no waitstaff work enough hours a week to qualify. But it's certainly a thought, and a good way to get some extra income coming in while trying to find a more high-paying job.
