Drop in energy costs in December seems to be the main cause of CPI drop, so I would expect January to see a rise.Clueless why CPI-U would be -0.4% while CPI only -0.1%. We've seen differences of .1% before, but I don't recall this big a difference.We did try to warn those flocking to I-bonds. Glad I decided not to go for TIPS at recent auction (though I could have sold for a profit a few days later).
