Hey, and welcome to Arkansas!

Unless you want to fight the crowds, you absolutely need to avoid the weekend of the War Eagle Crafts Fair in Northwest Arkansas - its nuts. People everywhere, and it is usually hard to get a hotel room. It affects all of Northwest Arkansas - everywhere from Fayetteville up to Bentonville and over to Eureka Springs. This year it looks like October 13-15. More information here: http://www.ozarkmerchants.com/craft_fairs.html

Also, if you are going to be in Fayetteville and don't want to fight the crowds, you're going to want to avoid a home Razorback football game. Don't get me wrong - I recommend checking out the Hogs if you're interested. However, town is usually slammed packed when the Hogs are in town. You can look at the schedule here http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/college_football_2005_schedules/arkansas.htm

Otherwise - what a great time to visit the area! There are all kinds of hotels in Fayetteville and Springdale - from Motel 6 up to the Hilton, just take your pick. Also, if you are looking for an experience, check out Eureka Springs - the Basin Park or the Cresent Hotels are fantastic places to stay, and might be in your budget.

Hope that helps - I'm in Little Rock, but got my degree from the University of Arkansas - lived in Fayetteville for 7 years. Of the few of us that watch this board, there are at least two up there, and they will probably be able to pitch in more on the transplants question. Personally, I love those mountains - it is a great place.

Matthew
