Hey, JLP, what about letting social security invest in a total stock market index fund rather than US treasuries. Mightn't that cure the unfunding before 2042? I understand this is really a political rather than financial issue.What if there is a recession and the market tanks for 2+ years? Potentially, there will not be enough value remaining to pay benefits.FuskieWho believes that the problem with Social Security is not that current employees are not putting enough in or that seniors are taking too much ou, but that politicians have been dipping into the till for so long, they are unwilling to take responsibility for their lack of fiscal responsibility that will soon catch up to them (kind of reminds me of sports team owners)...
