Hi Addie,
Addie is my favorite niece's name, her great-grandfather wrote Addie Pray, a book which the movie Paper Moon was based on. I ramble.....

The easiest thing to do is the check out the Foolish Four boards. I wish I could give you the addresses but I don't know how, the FAQs, etc will give you a wealth of info.
Go to Fools Bookstore check out those musty tomes by our boys Gardner, fabulous reading.
I started out with Cash-King companies, but they changed the focus to Rule-Makers, just when I thought that I had figured it out. Check out the Rulemaker boards, seriously.
Don't invest in something unless you understand what the company does & how well it does it in relation to its competition.
Since you have an inheritance be sure to be aware of the tax ramifications of selling a security and replacing it with others.
Some portfolios tend to be deversified, a euphemism brokers use to encourage more sales. You may want to concentrate your holdings in more lucrative positions.

Any way you asked, I answered. Good Luck Addie!!
