Hi Barcoo, Sorry about the long time it has taken me to reply. As we have no fresh food, having been isolated for 8 months, I have been taking the honours in the marginal food poisoning stakes. It's not the same Angela. We have three here, twoconstruction workers and a technician. I work in the US Antarctic Program and they do not extend to such niceties as providing a winterover counsellor. We are lucky this year, however, to have a doctor who very sucessfully doubles as one.
Its odd, actually, as we have to go through extensive testing both physical and psychological to qualify for the program. Then before the last plane leaves in February, they test us and interview us again, then fly off! So far no-one has killed anyone down here, although in 2001 an Aussie working here died of unknown causes (possibly related to alcohol, but certainly not proven) during the winter (we fly a flag over the place where he was buried until Station opening in late October). The flag is replaced by anew one each year and the one that flew for the previous year is given to his family. His fiance was here wintering over with him It must have been truly awful for her, especially as he died early in the winter.
Jules
