Hi Fredericch,

The squirrel probably wasn't sick. The hawk probably already stunned it with its talons. I seen a hawk hit them real hard, the squirrel run about 20 feet and just keel over, then they pick them up. I saw one get stunned and the hawk landed near it and just waited. I have also seen them try to scoop one up, lose it and the squirrel would get away.
