Hi,
I live in a great vacation spot that's pretty much unknown; it's the Swedish island of Gotland in the middle of the Baltic Sea. The main city is Visby and it's an old medieval walled town from the 1200's. People still live in the original houses, with the addition of electricity and indoor plumbing. There are old ruins crumbling gracefully everywhere.
It's also the site of the greatest number of Viking treasures ever found. The guys used to bury all their gold and silver here in between bouts of raping and pillaging. A lot of them never returned to claim it, and caches of goodies surface regularly. Metal detectors aren't allowed on the island, in order to protect everthing that's still there.
It's the vacation spot for many Swedes and Germans in the summer (population goes from 50,00 to 350,000) because of the great beaches, biking, music, etc. Also a year-round artist's colony.
You can tell I love the place... got a 6 month job here, and that was 2 years ago. It's a tough place to leave ;-)
