Hi JDHammer, My father retired to Costa Rica outside of San Jose. He draws from his US 401K annually for his living expenses. IIRC his expenses are between $15,000-$20,000 and he tells me he is hard press to spend that much. He enjoys it very much, he is close to the ocean/beach. He speaks the language (spanish) and was born and raised in a latin country so living in CR was not a culture shock to him. I have never visited the area so I can not give you my impressions. I do know many Americans/US retirees have moved there. I hope this starts you off on a wonderful adventure.Helen
