Hi, One cannot stop bruxism without a life style change and even that is questionable. The point of my post was to explain that the individuals occlusion has to be carefully evaluated and the deficiencies corrected by the splint. The splint does not stop the bruxing it only allows the individual to brux and cause the discomfort.Lighter splints were probably constructed from a soft resilient material, a silicone. These will not effectly treat a bruxing problem in my opinion. They are a waste of time and money. The possibilities of drug treatments and the resulting side effects are not needed by the vast majority of patients suffering from bruxism. These are resorted to when the underlying causes have not adequately been addressed and the dentist doesn't nor the physician doesn't have the expertise to follow the more consersative course.Bill
