(Hint to '46 ... If you don't know what to get me for Christmas, think "high-speed rotary meat slicer" !!!) I also think my brisket and pastrami would be better if I had a slicer, but those things sure aren't cheap. (Okay, actually the cheap ones ARE cheap-- in every sense-- but for a decent slicer that won't fall apart after a few uses, you should expect to shell out a lot of dough.)A coworker got a really good used Hobart slicer from a local deli that was going out of business. Maybe you should keep your eye out for a potential deal like that.
