Hmmmmm, I'm not so sure that the tablet will be just for leisure. If you walk into a VZ store, you get treated by an employee that puts your name into a tablet, and eventually you gt called up in the order that you came in, and by the time you get to the counter, the customer service rep already has your account info.
Where I work, we are considering giving our employees tablets to go work in the field. They will be able to initiate service requests, close work orders, perform checks, etc. without the hassle of trying to time stamp, or write things down on paper. Easier for the employee, and easier for the Supervisor.
We initially were looking at tough book computers for this task, but they are bulky, and very expensive. Tablets can handle the programs that we require, are smaller, can be "ruggadized" and are much cheaper. We are even considering normal tablets, and then purchasing a case to protect the tablet in place of the ruggadized version. Oh yeah, and since the tablets will need to interface with the existing, windows based network, our I.T. Department is requiring windows based software, and will not accept the apple IPAD.
I'm not saying that my company is the know all, but I'll also bet we are not the only one looking at this option.
