Honestly,

I think the vast majority of voters, don't decide based upon issues. They vote their "gut" (which is also why, imo, the democrats do better than they should in elections).

So, Obama's main issue is that he can't respond well when challenged. So he comes off seeming unprepared. People react to that viscerally.

Obama thinks he can charm voters again they way he did last time. While the voters *can* be charmed, they are also aware that they are far worse off now than when Obama assumed office. This also generates a visceral reaction.

Obama is losing to this reaction.
