honorwinds-
I haven't checked this board for quite some time so my reply is about 4 months late.
I live in a small town just outside of Rutland, Vt (Casella's headquarters)and work in Rutland. The Casella brothers are Vermont Yankees that built their business from scratch over the last 25 years or so through hard work and persistence.
Casella is well respected in the community and is a frequent sponsor of non-profit events and a supporter of non-profit community organizations.
As far as I know, none of their corporate officers are in jail or under indictment, which is so common in this industry. All this is nice but is only shows that they are "nice guys".
If you check their numbers, I think that you'll find that they are no dummies when it comes to the waste industry.
The fact that their stock has risen over 60% in the last 16 days indicates to me that the stigma of WMI, et. al. has faded somewhat and some of the waste industry stocks are being judged on their own merits.
