How do the writers here handle the issue of working with an idea that seems as if it probably has already been done?

There are no new ideas, just one's own unique take on same.

I recall an (unsuccessful) TV series based on a similar premise, in which a man gets the next day's newspaper every morning. What makes a story work is less about the idea itself than how well the idea is executed.
