How does this sound? Also, what is the best way to get from northern England/Scotland to Bath - train or a low-cost airline?

Hi Robert52,
The only time I've been to Bath was by car, since we were visiting friends in Bristol at the time and it was a nice day trip. I recall the drive was very pretty... through a forest that had these tiny little deer.

But several times I've taken the train from London to Edinburgh and it's a glorious trip.... beautiful scenery, and a very comfortable ride of about four hours. We usually pack our own lunch, small bottle of wine, and select a table-seat for a wonderful picnic onboard.

Returning from Scotland to London, we have often taken the night train, which leaves Edinburgh around 11pm. We select a sleeper car and after giving the steward our breakfast order, settle in for the fun experience of sleeping aboard. The train pulls into London in the wee hours, but it is sidelined somewhere so that you aren't awakened until 7am or so (with your tray of coffee/tea brought to your compartment) and then you have until 8am to disembark. It's a cool way to travel.

I think that same train stops in Manchester along the way, so you could probably board there instead of London. Check it out online... it's called "The Flying Scotsman" IRCC.
