Not always. Here in Texas my grandmother has a 'do not rescusitate' order in a pouch on her frig, a DNR pendant that she wears day and night, and I, my parents, and her doctor are aware of her wishes. However, she's already been informed that the DNR means absolutely nothing to responding emergency personnel. She's considering having the DNR statement tattooed on her chest so they can't claim ignorance of it...
