However I do believe that to get new blood contributing, the trial period would have to be much longer than 30 days, perhaps 90 or 180 days to get them really "hooked". Scanning through 3000 posts in 30 days might be a little daunting for the beginner.

We're going to start with 30 and see what happens. I tend to agree that the final solution will be different than 30-day trial. We're going to aggressively pursue new members now that we have an economic incentive to do so.
