However if I must pay how long can I take to do so. I know I have until April 15 to get my tax forms in. Now how long can I wait after that date to pay them.

Federal and state taxes must be paid by the due date of the return, without regard for extensions to file. If you don't pay by the due date you'll owe interest and, perhaps, penalties. See your state's instructions for its particulars.
