I have an HP Photosmart 1000 printer (about a year old) that had been connected to an HP computer.

Recently, bought a Dell 4550...and I can't install the printer!

The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition.

So far, I've folloed the directions...which say to download the driver, unzip, and at the prompt, connect the cables....after a minute or so with the cables connected, the prompt says it can't find the printer..I retry..still no success. Abort the install. Computer then says..You've got new hardware...

Sigh..connection obviously is working, but I can't get the driver to install.

HP Website says that if I'm running Norton System Works I won't be able to install the printer (I'm not)...sigh.

Any ideas? I'm not averse to buying a new printer if I can be sure it will be compatible with the Dell...

Thanks in advance...
