"It’s not enough that kids are being suspended from school for having Lego guns or bubble pistols or invisible “pretend” grenades. Now, they’re actually facing arrest for not having a real gun. This week in Alexandria, Virginia, a 10-year-old was riding home on the school bus when he showed his friends an orange-tipped toy gun he had in his backpack. The parents of a girl on the bus called school officials… who called the police… who found the toy in the boy’s backpack the next day. He was charged as a juvenile with a misdemeanor count of brandishing a weapon. Police said he brandished the toy gun on the bus “without indicating that it was fake” – something that you’d think would be obvious even to children, since it was a toy gun with an orange plastic tip on the barrel.

Whenever stories like this hit the news, school officials always insist that they have to respond forcefully because they need to protect our children from threats. But all of these cases, there was no threat from a gun. There wasn’t even a gun. The only threat children are suffering is the threat of being scarred for life from the trauma of the school officials’ insane overreactions.

The conservative satirist Iowahawk makes a very good point about this. He notes that for decades, the left has trumpeted the blacklists of the 1950s as an example of the damage caused by rightwing paranoia about communism. Well, he says at least the blacklisted writers were adults who just lost some screenplay deals. Leftwing paranoia over guns is bringing down school expulsions and even criminal records onto the heads of its victims, and they’re just innocent children."

Liberalism is a mental disorder affecting mainly people who should be rational adults.
