I agree with Seattle Pioneer. You know something it's one thing for a group to affectionately use a pejorative term to describe itself and its another for a person off the street to use the term. Your fiancee and his friends might have used the term to each other, but I am sure it would not have been received well coming from a member of the public.

If I heard you using the term I would just walk away. If I had relatives that were cops I might inform you what the term really means. Much the same if you had insulted another group in my presence.
