I agree with you, and the counselor may be perfectly competent. But choosing a counselor that is right for your situation is kind of tricky - they BOTH have to feel they are being taken seriously, and he doesn't. (And you are also right - he may not feel he's being listened to unless the counselor explicitly says YOU ARE RIGHT AND SHE IS WRONG, which isn't going to happen. That's a different issue.)


I'd be happy if the counselor would just stop recommeding "solutions" and instead help both of us see the other person's point of view and learn to compromise with each other. Even if the counselor does come up with the perfect solution this time, we need to learn how to resolve our problems ourselves.
