I agree with you on that point. However, why should the store/restaurant/etc. be made to lose business due to no fault of thier own? If was an owner of that business, I would not be happy with the situation at all. I have been in places of business when a child was very loud and the parent did nothing about it, even after an employee said something about the noise. At first the paying customers will put up with it, but it gets old really quickly, and they start leaving, without having spent their money.

As a paying customer, I should have the right to make my purchase is relative peace and quiet. I don't scream and irritate other customers and expect to receive the same consideration.


Just to state my feelings, I agree that it is a problem when a child is screaming and the parent does nothing to stop the behavior. Personally, if either of my children misbehave, they are taken aside and told that if the behavior does not improve immediately that we are leaving said store. In some cases, that is exactly what the kids want so they may continue but the most important thing is to follow through.

With that said, I agree with your points to an extent. As a paying customer, why shouldn't the parent of the misbehaving child have the right to make the purchase while their child is crying.

As far as the business owner being upset, that is a difficult thing to determine as they have no idea who will truly spend the money. That parent with the misbehaving child just may spend more money in the store than all the patrons who are upset.

The problem I have with a lot of these messages is that people seem to be annoyed with the children when in fact it is typically the parent at fault for such behavior. However, even the most well behaved child will have their "moments" and be unruly.
