I also just discovered this board. I recommend Mindfulness in Plain English, by Ven. Gunaratana. The full text is available online, free, at

http://www.vipassana.com/meditation/mindfulness_in_plain_english.html

There's a link to Amazon at the bottom of that page if you'd prefer to buy a paper copy.

Another good site for free reading material is

http://www.accesstoinsight.org

There's plenty at both those sites to keep you busy for a long time.

I just finished reading Shoes Outside the Door, which is a history of the San Francisco Zen Center. It's as much soap opera as it is documentary of spiritual practice -- both entertaining and enlightening.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1582431132

There are lots of other books I could recommend. Is there any particular area you're most interested in?

Best,
Ganelon
