I always order one anyway. The only exception was our Jetta. It was one of the last TDIs in the state from the previous model year (when they still offered 3yr's now 2yr). I didn't want the moonroof but did want a backup camera. I got a moonroof and no backup camera. It was the dropping of the free maintenance to 2 yrs that got me to eschew the newer model year.

Next car I'm almost certainly going to order. I will get what I want, period. And in the colors I want. I've already figured out minimum trim levels for the features I want (which I won't repeat here...already talked about it in another thread) for candidate models. The ones on the lot are a crap shoot as to what you will get. "No, I don't want a white one." "No, I don't want a spoiler." "Yes, I do want Bluetooth." Etc. They can't reasonably carry everything on their lots, so they have to make some guesses when they blind order.
