I always thought that the "for profit" HMO's - esp the blues along with AET, HUM and CI would realize that they had to become pro- active in coming up with a plan to cover the "un and under insured" in HC. They have not, so the whole idea of "single payer" as promoted by "Sicko" has started to gain acceptance which will only lead to useless debate. Tje Dem's demagoguery does not help

Additionally, all the HMO's got stupid with "Medicare Advantage" and under priced the product. The MLR's have been steadily creeping up. The providers are ratcheting up cost of care, and consolidating operations so choices such as they had before are not as available.

The only plus is that the insurers are not buying business to keep the revenue line.

Like dependendence on petroleum based products, it seems that the only cure for this problem will be crisis. The hope is that the cure will not be worse than the problem.
