I am 23 OIF vet.
Thank you for your service.

Are you still in the military? AAFES will give their Star card to anyone, since they know where to find you if you don't pay. Other store cards are usually easy to get, too. Credit unions also are a good place to look. If you need to, you can get a secured card using some of your savings as collateral. Pay these every month. Carrying a balance will not help your score.

True, there are ways to get a mortgage without good credit. There are also lots of other things that can be based on credit ratings, like car insurance rates and sometimes even being hired by an employer.

Congratulations on being so responsible with your money. I wish I'd been that smart about it when I was 23. :)
