I am 71 and based on my experience, after 11 years of
fun retirement, I believe you will need in excess of
$1 million in investments if you plan to retire in the
next 5 years. Of course if you are planning short spree
and don't expect to live too long, you could shade
that sum. We live in a small house in an inexpensive
part of the country, have a small mortgage and no other
debt. We have been round the world but live relatively
frugally. The book "The Millionaire Next Door" is must
reading if you plan early retirement. Invest 'foolishly
but plan wisely! Have a good life - - Matthew
