I am also a relative newcomer to the Napster s/w and phenomenon. While perhaps not a devotee, I have enjoyed reacquainting myself with old cuts I'd lost track of and new cuts I'd only heard about in passing.
Since using Napster sporadically over the past three months, I've purchased at least two albums based on the "research" it has allowed me to do. Granted, if the music industry is banking on me for their sales, they are bound to go broke since I'm not a big buyer, but I have to say that I do find your "no free lunch" response a bit shortsighted since my own "free" lunch ended up with me forking out $20 I otherwise would not have. Bon apetite.
