[[I am contributing the maximum amount allowed to my 457k deferred compensation plan at work ($7,500/yr). What I would like to know is whether or not I can make contributions to another retirement vehicle such as a Roth or non-Roth IRA.]]
You can make a contribution to a traditional IRA under any circumstances. The question is: will it be a deductible contribution. That'll be based upon your AGI. If you determine that it is a NON-deductible contribution, then you migh decide on a Roth IRA.
You can make a Roth IRA contribution, even though you have a 457 plan, as long as your income is under certainly limits.
You can read more about these limits (they are different for the Roth IRA and deductible traditional IRA) in my various posts on these issues in the Taxes FAQ area. Check it out.
